Title:
Report of 21 May 2012 SCV meeting

Introduction
A meeting of the Standardization Committee on Vocabulary (SCV) was held 21 May 2013; this
meeting was supplemented by an audio conference bridge and a webinar to display the
presentations to the remote participants. Dr. Imad Y. Hoballah (Lebanon) led the discussions of
this meeting in his capacity as chairman of this committee. The list of participants is indicated in
Annex 1 to this report.

Executive Summary
This meeting of SCV included 12 participants from 7 Administrations. This meeting was the
first convened since WTSA-12 and focused on organizational matters. It was reported that
extraction of terminology from ITU-T Recommendations has been continuing for newly
approved Recommendations and the terms and definitions placed in the online ITU Terms and
Definitions database. Liaisons were sent to TSAG and the ITU-T study groups in order to
minimize the duplication of terms and definitions.

Status of online terminology database
At previous meetings TSB has made presentations and a demonstration of a tool to extract
terminology from ITU-T Recommendations for insertion into the ITU terminology database
(http://www.itu.int/go/terminology-database). In the current meeting Anibal Cabrera indicated
that TSB has been populating the database with terms as ITU-T Recommendations complete the
publication process. He reported that since WTSA-08 TSB has added 17363 terms and
acronyms to this database.
3.3
Other business
After reviewing the text of Resolution 67 (Rev. Dubai, 2012) of the World Telecommunication
Standardization Assembly held in Dubai (WTSA-12), the participants agreed to remind TSAG in
a liaison (SCV-LS-2) to that body of the text indicating that WTSA-12:
instructs the Telecommunication Standardization Advisory Group
to consider the best mechanism for deciding which Recommendations approved under the
alternative approval process (AAP) shall be translated, in light of the relevant Council decisions.
Additionally, the participants agreed to send a liaison (SCV-LS-3) to all ITU-T study groups
indicating the dates of the next meetings and inviting identification of vocabulary rapporteurs.
4.
Summary of action items
The following, future actions were agreed by the participants:
1. TSB is to continue to extract terminology from ITU-T Recommendations and update the
ITU Terminology database.
2. SCV Secretariat to forward liaison SCV-LS-2 to TSAG with report of meeting.
3. SCV Secretariat to forward liaison SCV-LS-3 to ITU-T study groups indicating the dates
of the next meetings and inviting identification of vocabulary rapporteurs.
5.
Next meetings
SCV participants agreed to convene a virtual meeting on 4 December 2013. They also agreed to
a face-to-face meeting on 1 July 2014, in the week when TSAG meets in Geneva.
