Tuesday, November 29, 2005 S.G.A. Senate Minutes I. Call to Order 7:03 II. Attendance a. Some houses will have new senators next semester because of attendance problems. b. Senate met quorum III. Open Forum No open forum this week IV. Bicycle Kitchen Charter Presentation Would like to set up a shop in the boathouse and rent bikes Have already talked with Scott Johnson, head of outdoor program Would like to work towards a “green” bike program V. Rules Committee Presentation a. Special Guests: Paul Ominsky, Director of Public Safety, and Scott Graham, Assistant Director of Public Safety b. Do you have any questions about policies, campus lighting? c. Do you have suggestions on ways to make public safety even more helpful? Talked about structure of Public Safety Their focus is helping further improve the Smith Campus Talked about lighting, the blue-light phones, the lighting walk, their location, etc… Open Forum: 1. Lighting 2. Parking 3. Their ties with Health Services, Res. Life, and the student body 4. Alcohol policy 5. Drug policy 6. Emotional Distress = Response from Public Safety 7. Guest policy VI. Committee Time a. How can your committee help with the morale campaign? b. Have you completed a committee goals sheet? c. Have you implemented the suggestions for improved committee accountability? d. Check in with Lindsay to make sure she knows what you are working on. VII. Gavel Awards a. Committee Sign-up b. Nominations are due in the SGA office by Friday December 9th at 4pm. c. Gavel Award integral part of Morale campaign. The award is given every year by Senate Senate is responsible for all aspects of the award: nominating, gathering votes, presenting, etc… Meg passes out the nomination forms and advises Senators to publicize to their houses This award is given to a staff member, not faculty member or administrator This is also is a monetary reward Nominations due December 9th Meg needs 3-4 people to sit on a committee to choose the “winners” nominated Publicity committee needs to advertise this, as well as Senators VIII. New Business Bank of America ATM on campus? Universal bank ATM? Contact Student Bank House and Dining Committee members talked about fun: making an ad hoc committee on fun. President Christ has started the “Smell the Roses” campaign where people can appreciate nature… work with that campaign? Goal update for Senate? Meg confirms that Senate should make new goals for the next semester o Senate “dine-around” in houses on campus, or teas o Senate open House/Senate tea IX.
