February 14, 2006 SGA Senate Meeting Minutes I. Call to Order 7:05 a. Happy Valentine’s Day! b. Parliamentary procedure used throughout meeting. II. a. b. Roll Call Say one reason why you heart Smith when your name is called Make sure you see Lindsay if you did not receive my emails Senate met quorum III. Minutes Minutes pass from 2-7 7 abstentions IV. Open Forum Wednesday, the exhibit “Love Makes a Family” is going to be opening There will be an exhibit opening on Friday V. Student Activities Fee (SAF) Vote a. Is there anything that is still unclear b. Any additional discussion c. SAF passes, 9 abstentions VI. Rae-Anne a. Follow up on Drug Issue Residence Life has been made aware of possible issue, Residence Life has been having conversations with students College is making attempts to educate and program Public Safety and Deans have also been made aware of situation since last week The plan is to advertise for downtown support meetings on campus, and to provide info for local services Also collecting info about local and campus services The college doesn’t have any hard facts that there is a problem so it is difficult to raise awareness of a possible problem Next week, Rae-Anne will discuss the structure of the college VII. Senate Goal/ Open Forums a. Senate will host 2 Open Forums this semester b. Each committee will help make this a reality VIII. Committees a. Meet with your old or new committee. b. As a committee come up with a topic to propose for one of the Open Forums. c. Come up with specific committee goals in how you can aid in making forum into reality. IX. Committee Reports a. Representatives from each committee propose your Forum topic b. Representatives also propose your committee goals c. We will vote on topics next week and begin intensive planning d. e. f. g. h. i. j. k. l. m. Disaster Relief is planning forum on February 27th to talk about going to the gulf coast over spring break, a panel of people who went on a trip during J-term Housing and Dining proposes two separate housing, and dining forums because of the scope of the issues involved. Kathy Zieja and Hannah Durrant are willing to participate at forums Publicity would like more work Informational is going to keep in contact with committees and their needs, they will have information ready to clarify and charters Elections and Appointments encourages candidates to show up and state opinions on issue of the forum, also propose a health and wellness forum Diversity sent out newsletters last semester with survey and they have the results from that, proposes forum with Mentha Hines A state of the college address from President Christ or Ka’Neda Open forum on quantitative skills requirement Cabinet is trying to put together a forum on all academic concerns Discussion and vote tabled until next week X. Closing Thoughts/Announcements a. Is there anything going on around campus that Senate should know about? b. Curriculum Committee decided on faculty teaching awards last week XI.
