Discussion of SGA Constitution Amendments
a.
Senate’s role in chartering orgs.
b.
An amendment to the current SGA constitution regarding the Senate’s role in
chartering organizations is expected to be proposed in the near future. ORC is
considering proposing to eliminate the recognized organization process, and
assume the job of chartering orgs.
c.
All current recognized orgs. would need to apply to be chartered, or lose their
existing privileges. New orgs. would also still have the option of applying to
become chartered, but would apply to ORC rather than the Senate. ORC
would be expected to change its own guidelines to allow for more members,
d.
and better representation of the student body. Currently chartering orgs. is
one of the Senate’s most significant tasks.
If an amendment proposal is made, Senate will discuss and vote on it. If
Senate passes it, the Rules Committee would then check for acceptable
wording and so on. Finally the student body would vote on the proposal in the
upcoming Spring elections.
