Senate Elections Next week
a.
Senate Parliamentarian

Senate turnover booklets: Senators need to review the year and
brainstorm advice for next year’s Senate. Recycle parliamentary
procedure books, make sure new senators have access to
information when replacing other senators, establish committees
to reach specific goals, recruiting incoming students at
orientations, and more cooperation with SGA cabinet to
accomplish goals.

Passed Celebrations charter, one abstention.
V.
Charters
a.
Gender Action Advocacy Alliance (G3A) is an update/renaming
of Tangent, which hopes to spread out power within group (15
active members)
b.
Best Buddies, a program linking Smith students with
intellectually disabled community members, hopes to be
chartered to receive more college support and funding for
activities and programs (30 active members)
c.
Ice Hockey joined ACHA and now plays in organized
competition; in addition, they added 2 social chairs and tried to
adapt to reorganization under athletics department, added coach,
number of games, transportation, increased competitiveness
d.
Lifeguards Synchronized Swimming Club changed secretary
position and responsibility for president in coach’s absence
e.
Prism changed positions and distribution of positions, defined
what an active member is, and a course of impeachment
f.
Smith College Athletic Association removed publicity chair, tried
to create more accountability of AA positions and rearranged
responsibilities among chairs
g.
American Choral Director’s Association, an association for
people who are interested in conducting, is hoping to get
chartered for the first time at Smith. There are no other college
chapters in the 5 colleges. Interested in conferences, conventions,
and concerts (7 students interested)
VI.
Dining, Health and Nutrition Forum Updates
a.
Date = May 2nd at 7pm, conflict with Athletics Banquet, maybe a
later start time would be best. Check on time and space
availability. Maybe AA should address more nutritional
information for athletes. Look for space for May 4th at lunch time.
Tentative second meeting with Kathy Zieja during senate time,
May 2nd for informal discussion.
b.
Invite suggestions: list of athletic employees, health and nutrition
employees. Invite all, see who can come as a resource for
discussions and provider of information.
c.
Food will be Grab and Go, maybe we can get small
snacks/refreshments.
d.
Planning: having a moderator to line up questions, keeping
discussion on track (Jacqueline Sager and Sara Barz)

a.
Disaster Relief Committee is now a permanent committee on
Senate

Closing Announcements
a.
There is no sexual assault officer on campus. One should go to
counseling at Health Services, Every Woman’s center at UMass,
or Public Safety. Maybe more students could be trained in sexual
assault crisis. Get in touch with the dean of students to report
information
b.
Hunger Banquet will be held in Davis next week
c.
Disaster Relief Committee and Housing and Dining Committee
will meet after Senate
d.
Promote voting this week!
