 Student Government Association Senate 4/12/16 7­9 pm Campus Center 103/104 Agenda: Attendance ­ 7:00 pm Approval of Minutes from 4/5/16– 7:05 pm ● Passed 18:0:2 Debate Charter Presentation – 7:10 pm ● Debate has changed the language in their charter and moved around several positions Smithies in CompSci Charter Presentation – 7:20 pm ● Smithies in CompSci have added hazing and nondiscriminatory language to their policy among other changes. Mass Hazing Clause Amendment Vote– 7:30 pm ● Several orgs have not edited their charters to add nondiscriminatory language to their policies. These orgs will be inactive until they add this language and present their updates to Senate. ● Motion passes 14:0:0 ● Committee Updates– 7:35 pm ● Curriculum Committee will be meeting with faculty to discuss giving students access to course evaluation responses ● Student Life: We’ve received 410 responses to the Counseling Services Survey ● New Student Orientation sub­committee will be meeting with Marg Litchford this week. ●

Orc sent out their new funding policy to orgs ORC is having a Spring Fling party with an ice cream sundae bar EnA is planning the Transition meeting. It will be Sunday from 11:30­12:30 in the CC. SJE is working on the outline for SJE Fall training. They are seeking training by nearby alums ● Voting for SGA is LIVE ● Seven Sisters Coordinating Board Spring Summit is this Saturday at 2pm ● We will be voting for Parliamentarian next week. Open Forum – 7:40 pm ● Neilson Library Fair Labor Practices has presented their final resolution. It will be voted on at next week’s meeting. ● Take Back the Night was moved to this Thursday due to weather. ● Kathy’s Pajama Jam will be the last day of classes in the afternoon. Area Meetings – 8:00 pm Conversation with Roger Mosier – 8:10 pm ● What is accessibility? There is an accessibility code and spaces are either compliant or non compliant. ○ This code is called ADAG and is available to students (and the general public) online. ● Spaces must meet the code completely. A space is not accessible if something is a little off. ● According to this definition, all academic buildings on campus are accessible, though many residential buildings are not. ● Roger has talked to Laura Roucher about how students can become involved in making the campus more accessible. They both agreed that it would help if students reported problems ● There is currently no accessibility audit planned because Facilities is aware of where the accessibility issues are and would like to channel energy and money to fixing those problems. ● Changes will be made within the context of a larger renovation ● If accessible bathrooms do not have locks students should report this via the school’s work order system. ○ The form will ask for your room number but you can still report an issue anywhere on campus ○ You can also call facilities directly or email facilitiesservices@smith.edu ●

○ An mobile app is in the works. It would be useful to add a list of accessible spaces on this app. In regards to gender neutral bathrooms which are labeled as accessible, Roger would like to consult Dwight Hamilton before taking any action. Smith has determined the amount that it would like to put into the capital plan for every year. Currently it is about 20 million. Accessibility is part of this plan. Most major renovations can only happen during the summer. There is a plan in the works to move laundry facilities from inaccessible basements Paradise Apartments will be 50% accessible and Accessibility Vans will be running to that part of campus. It is best to avoid elevators because they require a lot of upkeep and money to maintain
