Invitation to the fourth meeting of the Council Working Group on WSIS (WG-WSIS),
10 and 11 September 2003, Madeira, Portugal
Dear Colleagues,
ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, (Res. 113) invited the Council Working Group on the World Summit
on the Information Society (WG-WSIS) to ensure that ITU makes a contribution to the WSIS
Preparatory Committee (PrepCom), in line with the guidelines for ITU inputs to the declaration of
principles and action plan contained in Decision 8 (Marrakesh, 2002).
The Group has held three meetings, during which participants prepared the ITU contribution to the
Summit, discussed the output from PrepCom-2, (the draft declaration of principles and action plan),
and prepared the group report’s to the ITU Council on the ITU input to the WSIS process.
In order to review the results of the recent WSIS inter-sessional meeting (Paris, 15-18 July 2003), and
to prepare for the forthcoming WSIS PrepCom-3, a fourth meeting of the WG-WSIS will be held in
Madeira, Portugal, on 10 and 11 September 2003, starting in the afternoon of 10 September,
following the CEPT Plenary Assembly. The meeting will be kindly hosted by ANACOM, and will be
held in English only. A social event, offered by ANACOM, will take place in the afternoon of the 11 th,
at the end of the meeting.
I would like to draw your attention to the importance of the meeting. taking into consideration the
forthcoming Prepcom3 meeting. and I hope for a wide participation in it. We also hope for the active
involvement of the private sector in working further on the WSIS basic documents, especially Action
plan.
More information on the Group’s mandate and work, as well as further details about the meeting, can
