Ambassador Swanee Hunt shares her life story as she donates her papers to the Sophia Smith Collection. Swanee Hunt is an expert on US politics and foreign affairs, especially as they relate to women, and a leader in efforts to combat human trafficking. Former US ambassador to Austria (1993–1997), she is founder and chair of the Washington-based Institute for Inclusive Security, which conducts research, training and advocacy to integrate women into peace processes around the world. Hunt is founder of the Women and Public Policy Program at Harvard University, a member of the US Council on Foreign Relations, and president of the Hunt Alternatives Fund. She is author of This Was Not Our War: Bosnian Women Reclaiming the Peace and Worlds Apart: Bosnian Lessons for Global Security. Smith is awarding Hunt an honorary degree at commencement.
