Office of Academic Services Procedures for Videos, DVDs and Equipment Neilson Library houses videos, DVDs, laser discs and audio-tapes, which are available on request at the Circulation Desk. Individual viewing stations are located on the second floor of Neilson; a group viewing room is on the third floor. Classroom support and equipment are provided by ITS (x3474, classhelp@smith.edu, http://www.smith.edu/its/ets/classroomsupport.html). 1. To place Smith media items on reserve, list them in your syllabus, noting they will be on reserve. During the summer, send reserve requests to neilres@smith.edu or ask at the Circulation Desk. Please note, Five College Media items are generally not available to be placed on reserve at Smith except under special circumstances. 2. To borrow Smith media, request by call number at the Neilson Circulation desk. 3. To borrow Five College DVDs and videos, request titles through the Five College Library Catalog and they will be delivered to Smith for you to pick up at Circulation. 4. To “book” Smith and/or Five College media items for in-class use on a specific date, complete an online request form at: http://www.smith.edu/libraries/forms/videobooking.htm or fill out a green media request form available at the Neilson Circulation Desk. Bookings should be made at least one week in advance of the date needed to ensure availability. This is very important. Booked items will be held for you at the Neilson Circulation Desk for pick up on the day you specify. Please return items to the library when you're done. You are responsible for all items checked out on your account. “Booking” is NOT the same as “reserve”. If you want the booked item to be placed on reserve, make sure to add the item to your syllabus, talk to a Circulation staff member or email neilres@smith.edu. Videos will not be delivered to your classroom. You will need to pick them up and return them to Neilson Library. Videos borrowed from another college circulate for one week. Please plan accordingly. 5. To request the purchase of a video, check with your course coordinator (if applicable) to make sure that he or she does not already own it. All requests for video purchases must be cleared by the Dean’s office. You can submit orders on a paper form (pick up at Neilson Library) or online at http://www.smith.edu/libraries/forms/bkorders.htm 6. To request classroom support or special equipment, fill out the online form at: http://www.smith.edu/its/class_support/classrequest.html . The account number needed to complete the form can be obtained from the SSW staff. Questions? Please contact Jane Clayton at x2914 or at videoreq@smith.edu
