Transfer students, who enter with 64 transfer credits, or first semester junior status, are ineligible to apply for the
Smithsonian program because of the two-year residence requirement at the college.

On a separate sheet(s), please supply the following information, typed, in the following order:
1.
Your project preference, using the number and museum office of the projects (a total of three projects) for
research assignment project. Do not prioritize this list. The list of projects can be found here:
http://www.smith.edu/ams/smithsonian/apply.php.

A list of relevant college-level courses, with course title (people at the Smithsonian cannot tell anything from the
course numbers), your grade, and the name of your instructor. (Please include all courses that would help to
qualify you for the projects you might want.)
3.
Previous work experience.

How does this program fit into your overall academic program--i.e. how would it complement what you have
already done, and serve as preparation for what you plan to do (academically and otherwise) in the future? Briefly
explain why you are interested in the particular projects you have chosen.
5.
Please include a sample graded paper (about 5 pages) on a topic as closely related as possible to a preferred
research project. Either scan the paper and email with the application or submit with your application materials.

Request an official transcript from the Registrar’s Office (request that it be sent to the AMS Office, Wright
Hall 224) by the application due date of March 4.
Participation in the program is contingent on successful completion of the current semester.
A GPA of at least 3.0 is required.
