THE WELL-STREET JOURNAL
~Brought to you by Jan Morris in Student Affairs~
Many people are surprised to learn that
researchers have discovered a single
treatment that:
It’s E-Z-z-z-z-z-z-z...
1. Allow yourself a 60-minute
wind-down. If you'r e moving
at full-speed all day, it can be
tough to suddenly switch yourself "off" at night.
2. Take a warm bath or
shower.

improves memory,
increases people's ability to concentrate,
strengthens the immune system and
decreases people's risk of being in accidents.
Sounds too good to be true? It gets even better. The treatment
3. Put on socks. One
is completely free and has no side effects. Finally, most people
study revealed that wearing

socks dilates your blood vessels
and can help blood flow, leading

to a more optimal temperature
for snoozing.
4. Try the 4-7-8 exercise:
Inhale for 4 seconds, hold your
breath for 7 seconds, and exhale
for 8 seconds.
5. Don't get in bed until you
actually feel
sleepy.
getting an extra 60-90 minutes of sleep
each night!
Easier said than done, you say?
Well, here are some tips to help you
drift off in that direction.

6. Practice calming techniques,
not only at night. Relaxation
techniques like visualization or
progressive muscle relaxation
can help you unwind.
7. Get out of bed rather than
struggle to fall asleep. Tr ain
your brain that a bed is for sleeping (which means studying in
bed is also a no-no.)
8. Hide your clock (and/or cell
phone). Checking the time
and stressing about it won’t
help. Nor will checking your
messages every time your
phone makes a noise.
9. Vent on paper. If r acing
thoughts keep you up, consider
jotting down what's on your
mind before you head to bed.
Processing your feelings (good and
bad!) can help you relax into a
sleepier state of mind.
