UCL Advances
UCL Advances, UCL's centre for entrepreneurship and business interaction, helps anyone who wants
to learn about, start or grow a business. It’s primary role is to promote a culture of entrepreneurship
on campus and engagement with entrepreneurs and small businesses beyond UCL’s boundaries. It
works to support start-ups and small businesses across London by helping them to access the
technical and business expertise of UCL’s staff and students through a series of programmes to help
support ambitious young companies.
UCL Advances is affiliated with UCL Enterprise, which provides UCL’s structures for engaging with
business for commercial and societal benefit.

The Project: Enterprise Europe Network
The Enterprise Europe Network brings together 600 partner organisations in more than 50 countries
to help your business innovate, grow and succeed in the European marketplace. It’s the world’s
largest business support network, but free and simple to use with local contacts and insight across
each part of the UK. From 1st January 2015 Innovate UK became Coordinator and Co-Funder of EEN
delivery in England, Northern Ireland and Wales forming the ENIW consortium. UCL is host
organization of the project in London delivering mainly on the technological and commercial
brokerage across borders.

2. The Role
Job Title
Enterprise Europe Network Business Advisor
Location
UCL Advances
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Part-time business advisor helping London based SMEs and Universities find business partners in
Europe and internationally through the Enterprise Europe Network Partnership Tools
Deliver practical assistance to SMEs that fully utilises the EEN service and results in contractual
agreements between them and an overseas partner
Locating relevant commercial and/or technical cooperation partners for SMEs
Organising inward and outward company missions in the sector with support of colleagues
Collect outputs for the project with the help of Project Assistant
Liaison with other departments within the College and partner organisations to establish the
programmes’ work within the context of their initiatives eg. UCLH to ensure best practice in
incorporated into their product
Track and file records of service delivery, outputs and any other evidence (including records of all
meetings)
Work with the Project Board on analysis of data and subsequent report writing, publication and
dissemination of results
Attend events, which may take place outside of regular office hours
Develop and maintain a full and up to date knowledge of all relevant Enterprise
services/partnerships and their applications and benefits
3. Person Specification: Knowledge, Skills and Attitude Required
Relationships
You will work directly with the EEN Project Assistant and Programme Manager
You will work closely on a day-to-day basis with members of the UCL Advances Team, especially
Business Support, Knowledge Transfer and Decide Team.
You will develop key relationships with staff in other UCL Departments and external business
support agencies.
You will develop working relationships with ENIW consortium colleagues and with EEN
colleagues in Europe.

Person Specification
This role would suit an experienced business person who previously helped with tech
commercialisation and business development internationally.
You must be able to demonstrate excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, the ability to
take on responsibilities and to have a hands-on attitude to the post.
You must be able to help London based SMEs and Universities find business partners in Europe.
Specifically you need to be able to demonstrate the following experience and competencies, or
their equivalents in other fields:
Essential
• The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate knowledge of its sector (IT or
Healthcare)
• Experience as a business advisor
• Knowledge of new technologies in its sector
• An excellent communicator
• Analytical and innovative with excellent planning and execution skills
• Working effectively on own initiative
• Have experience of business customer relationship management
• Have a minimum of 3 A level passes or equivalent
Desirable
• Degree in business or engineering preferable, but by no means required
• Have experience of business customer relationship management
