Criteriaforselectionaresolelybasedonthetechnicalcontents,whichwillbejudgedbasedonscientific significance,intellectualmerits,noveltyaswellasimpact. Allresearchpapersmusthaveastheirfirstauthorastudentorarecentstudent,nomorethanoneyear beyondgraduation(atthedateofsubmissionofthe7‐pageresearchpaper).Itisexpectedthatmost submissionswilldescribeMaster’sorPh.D.levelwork;however,trulyexceptionalworkdoneby undergraduatestudentswillbeconsideredaswell.Eachcompetitorisrequiredtosubmita7‐pageshort paper(12ptfontTimesNewRoman,1”margins,includinggraphics)todescribethebackgroundand motivation,maincontributionsandimpactofthework,includingcitationstopublishedworksbythestudent (phase1).Theworkdescribedinthe7‐pageresearchpapercanalsobepresentedatanothersymposiumat EMI2012,butitisnotrequiredforparticipationinthiscompetition. Althoughthepagelimitwillpreventpresentationofextendedexposition,sufficientdetailsshouldbe includedtoallowareasonableassessmentoftechnicalmerits.Onthecoverpageofeachsubmittedresearch paper,itshouldclearlystatedthatthepaperisintendedforenteringthe2ndY.C.FUNGSTUDENTPAPER COMPETITIONONBIOMECHANICS,BIOPHYSICSANDBIOMATERIOMICSwiththeauthors’name,title(s),and 1 affiliationsincluded.Electronicsubmissionsarerequired.Basedontheevaluationoftheresearchpaper,a groupoffinalistswillbeselectedwhowillpresenttheirworkinacompetitionsymposiumwithoral presentations,tobeheldatthe2012EngineeringMechanicsInstituteConference(phase2).Apanelofjudges willselectthefinalwinnerbyconsideringthequalityofboththepaperandtheoralpresentation. Thecompetitionisopentostudentsinallacademicdisciplinesandcountries.Allparticipantsselectedforthe finalcompetitionsymposiumareresponsiblefortheirowntravelexpensesandmeetingregistrationfees.
