AND
CHOSE MICHIGAN TECH
WE CHOSE YOU RIGHT BACK.
CONGRATS!
We know you’re psyched to arrive, and we can’t wait to have
you here. That’s why we’ve compiled this handy booklet with
the info you need to prep for Tech. Get ready, complete your
checklist items, learn about moving in, and meet a few of the
people who will make your Orientation experience a
true adventure.
DALLAS LINVILLE
Fourth Year, Biological Sciences/Pre-Med Major
Orientation Programming Coordinator
“Orientation Week is your time to make
friends and get connected to campus. There are
many events and opportunities offered during
Orientation Week, so take advantage
of everything before classes start.”
KNOW
THE
CHECKPOINTS
We’re counting down the days
until you arrive, and hopefully
you’re doing the same!
In the meantime, here are a few
super-important things you’ll
need to know to start planning
your time at Tech, as well as a
list of things for you to complete.
READ THE 2015 READING
AS INQUIRY SELECTION
Your Summer Reading as Inquiry book
is Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in
North Korea, by Barbara Demick. You’ll
participate in a group discussion during
Orientation, so make sure you buy and
read the book before arriving on campus.
TAKE YOUR PLACEMENT TESTS
All new students will be registered for their classes by Michigan
Tech staff in July. In order to be placed into the right classes, take
the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment.
Visit www.mtu.edu/math/placement/aleks.
If you plan to study a foreign language, take the Modern Language
Placement Test. See www.mtu.edu/modern-languages.
USE YOUR MYMICHIGANTECH PORTAL
mymichigantech.mtu.edu
On your MyMichiganTech portal, you’ll receive messages about any
business you need to take care of before arriving on campus. Check
your portal often. Through your MyMichiganTech portal, you will
need to:
SUBMIT YOUR HUSKYCARD ID PHOTO
Your HuskyCard is your official photo ID, room and building
access key, residence hall meal pass, and debit card. Submit a
photo for your HuskyCard, and your card will be ready when
you arrive on campus.
COMPLETE CAMPUS CLARITY
All new Michigan Tech students are required to complete
Campus Clarity: Think About It—a comprehensive foundation
in four areas: sex in college, partying smart, sexual violence,
and healthy relationships. Whether or not these scenarios
apply to you, Think About It will provide simple strategies for
keeping yourself and others safe. On August 1, you will get an
email letting you know that the course is open and ready for
completion.
CONTACT YOUR ROOMMATE
Also on August 1, you will receive notification of your room
assignment, meal plan, mailing address, roommate’s name
and contact information, and more. If you do not receive this
on August 1, contact Housing and Residential Life at
906-487-2682 or housing@mtu.edu. For more information
about living on campus, visit www.housing.mtu.edu.

“This is your time to adjust to college
life. Make friends, find your way
around campus, and learn about
campus resources. Then, once you start
classes and have a chance to adjust to

It’s time to head to Michigan Tech for move-in, Orientation, and your
first weeks of school. Here’s what you need to know for those first
days. We can’t wait to meet you!
WELCOME TO CAMPUS
Move-in weekend is August 22–23. Signs will direct you to new
student check-in—your first stop after arriving on campus. We’ve
included a campus map on the inside back cover of this publication
to help you find your way around. For a smooth move-in, simply
follow the steps below.
STEP 1: NEW STUDENT CHECK-IN
Hold the unpacking! The first thing to do when you arrive is check
in at the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts (#10). You can check
in on Saturday, August 22, between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm, or Sunday,
August 23, between 9:00 am and noon.
STEP 2: MOVE-IN
After you’ve checked in, find your residence hall and let the
move-in commence. The Michigan Tech Welcome Crew—
a team of friendly Husky helpers—will assist you
throughout the process.
DAN NELLIS
Fourth Year, Audio Production and Technology
and Computer Engineering Major
Orientation Training
and Staff Coordinator
“Come to college with an open mind
and be receptive to new ideas and
experiences. College is a place to branch
out, step out of your comfort zone, have
new experiences, and try that thing you
never thought you would. Start your
adventure!”
