Biography
Marsha Elizabeth Penti grew up in a farming town in southeastern Massachussetts. She is a grauate of the
Michigan Technological University Humanities Department, Rhetoric and Technical Communications
graduate program. She successfully defended her dissertation and earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree
in 1998.
Collection Scope and Contents
Collection, 1990-1997, of the research materials collected by Marsha E. Penti as she was preparing to
write and defend her dissertation, "Religious Identites in the Composition Class: Learning from Students
of Difference." The dissertation research was partially funded by the National Council of Teachers of
English (NCTE). This collection includes recorded interviews, interview transcripts, field notes, student
English papers, conference presentations, progress reports, and some miscellaneous documents.
