WASTE MANAGEMENT
Litter or waste outside premise (e.g. behind buildings or over fences)?
Are there leaks from waste skips, bins or compactors?
Rubbish bins and recycling facilities not provided?
Is the premise untidy (e.g. Storage of materials or waste in passageways or entrances)
Batteries lying around the premise?
CHEMICAL MANAGEMENT
Bunds in poor condition (e.g. filled with rainwater, overflowing, stained, damaged or cracked)?
Chemical containers or drums unsafely stacked, stored outside, or stored in close proximity to stormwater drains?
Containers without lids or unsealed bags?
Unlabelled or wrongly labelled chemical containers?
Out of date or missing Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS’s)?
(MSDS’s must be easily accessible on site, and must be current i.e. no more than five years old)?
Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances Register out of date?
Diesel or oil staining around refuelling areas?
Inappropriate, inaccessible, or not spill kit on site or available to the site?
STORMWATER MANAGEMENT
Untidy and dirty yards, carparks and outside surfaces?
Unlabelled stormwater grates or drains?
Overflowing or blocked oil interceptors, grease traps, grates, drains or treatment systems?
Evidence of leaks, surface staining or corrosion within reach of the stormwater system?
Containers being washed down within reach of stormwater drains?
Outdoor bunds with open or unsecured stormwater valves?
Wash bay facilities dirty and / or have access to stormwater drains?
If you have ticked YES to any of the above you could be causing pollution or not managing your site in an environmentally friendly way,
please refer to environmental procedures for information to improve environmental performance in these areas.
This checklist can be used on a regular basis to see if housekeeping practices have improved at your site.
