Department of Chemistry Investigating the catalytic potential of a unique aromatic nitration enzyme Professor Greg Challis (Warwick) and Dr Luke Humphreys (GlaxoSmithKline) Project Description: A PhD studentship funded jointly by BBSRC and GlaxoSmithKline is available from October 2014 to explore the catalytic potential of a unique cytochrome P450 enzyme recently discovered by the Challis group (Nat. Chem. Biol. 2012, 8, 814-816). This enzyme catalyses regiospecific nitration of the indole of L-tryptophan, the first committed step in the biosynthesis of the thaxtomin phytotoxins in plant pathogenic Streptomyces bacteria. The studentship is open to UK/EU nationals only due to funding restrictions. Fees etc: will provide stipend plus fees for 3.5 years. Entry Requirements: Honours degree (at least II.1 or equivalent) in Chemistry. How to apply: Details of how to apply are available at http://www.go.warwick.ac.uk/chem-phd Before applying, please make informal inquiries to Professor Greg Challis (G.L.Challis@warwick.ac.uk). Informal enquiries should include a CV and personal statement. Deadline for applications is April 30, 2014
