Student Success, Development, and Service • Oversee university Career Services department which has a 96% six-month placement rate and an average annual starting salary of recent graduates of $62,800 – tenth highest for public universities in the nation • Lead retention analysis efforts on campus which review and offered success programming for students deemed at higher than normal risk of not retaining year 1 to year 2 • Serve as emergencies operation primary back-up director of institutional incident command team. Trained to NIMS level 400 • Six years’ experience as responsible individual for all academic information records of the university, administration of the academic requirements, University Calendar, course scheduling, registration process, classroom inventory management, and other typical responsibilities of a university registrar • Led efforts to open an institutional one-stop Student Service Center fall of 2010 • Developed a student-centered “culture of care” ethic among student service personnel John B. Lehman 1 • Responsible for international student tracking and immigration compliance as well as all student life projects associated with international students Recruitment • Lead an energetic and efficient team of on and off-campus recruiters enrolling students from over 40 states and nearly 70 different countries • Restructured admissions recruiter positions into territory managers, requiring staff to study their areas and make informed and strategic decisions about their resources and time • Oversee development of a comprehensive prospective student communication plan which includes: o Centralizing and streamlining communications from all university sources to ensure students see, read, and hear a consistent, coordinated, and strategic institutional voice o Successfully implemented new contact management software (EMAS Recruitment/Telecounseling Pro) o Utilized “the experts” (current students) in recruitment by developing an admissions tele-counseling center as well as student ambassador high school visit program o Developed an entirely new prospective student website (mtu.edu/admissions) • Responsible for campus visit programs, established a spring program to “close the deal” • Responsible for development, fund raising, and recruitment for annual engineering and science expo (YES! Expo) with over 15,000 precollege students from the Detroit attending the annual program each year • Utilize over ten years’ experience directing precollege, academic, residential programs serving 1,200-1,500 middle and high school students each year to assist with recruitment efforts Diversity Initiatives • Enrollment of STEM-based female students increased by from 23% to 27% of student body (as a STEM based institution, Michigan Tech looks to increase its female student population) • Enrollment of new domestic minority students increased from 2005 to 2015 • Enrollment of international students increased from 9% to 15% of student body from 2005 to 2015 • Experienced in planning and implement precollege outreach to underrepresented populations as well as corporate advancement fundraising often associated with such activity Financial Aid Leveraging • Effectively leverage a thirty million dollar financial aid budget • Experience developing and utilizing systems and procedures using predictive modeling to target merit as well as needbased aid for utmost matriculation efficacy • Utilize strategies to continually investigate areas of tuition elasticity • Revised and centralized donor-funded scholarship award practices to provide maximum relief to institutional general fund • Instituted new merit-based scholarship programs for in-state, non-resident, as well as international students which highlight University’s distinction K-12 Outreach • Developed externally funded STEM-based outreach initiatives giving nationwide exposure to institution • Organize efforts to seek, promote, develop, and maintain resource development opportunities with individuals, corporations, foundations, governments, civic organizations, schools, and parent groups • Lead efforts to organize Michigan Tech’s Youth in Engineering and Science Expo at Ford Field in Detroit 2006-2008 • Successfully launched a precollege STEM-based hands-on “road-show” offering tent-style interactive educational modules to students at such venues as the national Boy Scout jamboree, the Washington D.C. mall, Girl Scout gatherings, etc. • Developed and sustain partnerships with school districts and educational organizations with high concentrations of underrepresented students • Served on Detroit Area Precollege Engineering Programs (DAPCEP) programs committee from 1997 to 2005 John B.
