Fall 2008 Fraternity/Sorority Report
Educational Programming
The fraternity/sorority community held its first Greek New Member Orientation for 75 new members representing 12 chapters on October
25, 2008.
Michigan Tech entered into a relationship with the North-American Interfraternity Conference (NIC) to host the IMPACT Institute,
scheduled for March 20-22, 2009.
Academics
Fraternity men achieved a term GPA of 2.50, while Sorority women achieved a term GPA of 2.77.
The fraternity/sorority community recorded a term GPA of 2.60 for the Fall 2008 semester.
Recruitment/Expansion
Michigan Tech welcomed Triangle Fraternity back to campus as an interest group formed during the Fall 2008 semester.
93 undergraduate men joined fraternities in the Fall 2008 semester, a 182% increase from the Spring 2008 semester.
53 undergraduate women joined sororities in the Fall 2008 semester, a 61% increase from the Spring 2008 semester.
Leadership & Involvement
11 undergraduate members representing 9 chapters attended the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute (UIFI) in
Bloomington, IN.
o 8 of these students served as facilitators for the Greek New Member Orientation in October.
Awards and Recognition
14 undergraduate members representing 5 chapters were selected to join the Order of Omega Greek Leadership Honorary in the Fall 2008
semester.
Tiffany Korn of Alpha Gamma Delta was recognized as the Greek Student of the Month for October 2008.
Discipline
The following organizations were found to be responsible and were sanctioned for violating university policy during Fall 2008:
o Theta Tau – Organizational Probation until May 26, 2010
o Beta Sigma Theta - Organizational Suspension until August 31, 2009
The following organizations continue their probationary status with the university for previous violations:
o Delta Upsilon – Organizational Probation until April 31, 2009
