Educational Programming
Michigan Tech hosted the IMPACT Institute, sponsored by the North-American Interfraternity Conference, on March 20-22, 2009. 53 students
representing 18 chapters graduated from the institute.
Recruitment
36 undergraduate men joined fraternities in the Spring 2009 semester.
23 undergraduate women joined sororities in the Spring 2009 semester.
Awards and Recognition
Greek Awards (see http://greek.mtu.edu for complete list of award winners):
o Five chapters received our Chapter of Excellence Award for demonstrating excellence in all five values integration areas:
 Alpha Gamma Delta
 Alpha Sigma Tau
 Delta Phi Epsilon
 Delta Zeta
 Phi Kappa Tau
o Jessica Turuc (Theta Chi Epsilon) was awarded Greek Woman of the Year
o Jeffrey Decker (Sigma Phi Epsilon) was awarded Greek Man of the Year.
Student Life Awards:
o The following chapters received organizational awards:
 Delta Zeta – Student Organization of the Year
 Triangle Fraternity – Most Improved Student Organization of the Year
o The following Greek students/advisors received individual awards:
 Richard Heglund (Phi Kappa Tau) - Exceptional Leadership in Student Governance
 Joseph Gallo (Sigma Tau Gamma) – Exceptional Enthusiasm as a Student Leader
 Dr. Donna Michalek (Delta Phi Epsilon) – Student Organization Advisor of the Year
Discipline
The following organizations were found to be responsible for violations of University/Greek policy during Spring 2009:
o Tau Kappa Epsilon – Organization Probation from August 15, 2009 until February 15, 2011
o Phi Kappa Theta – Organizational Probation until February 27, 2010
The following organizations continue their probationary status with the university for previous violations:
o Theta Tau – Organizational Probation until May 26, 2010
o Beta Sigma Theta - Organizational Suspension until August 31, 2009
The following organizations were placed on Academic Warning for Spring 2009 for Fall Cumulative GPAs less than 2.50:
o Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Theta, Sigma Pi, Sigma Rho
