Fall 2009 Fraternity/Sorority Report
Educational Programming
The fraternity/sorority community held its second Greek New Member Orientation for 51 new members representing 12 chapters on November 7, 2009.
Councils
Interfraternity Council
o IFC hosted the Greek Academic Awards banquet for faculty and staff across campus on December 8, 2009.
Panhellenic Council
o Panhellenic Council welcomed Theta Chi Epsilon as Full Members of the council.
o Panhellenic Council voted to amend their constitution by adding a Vice President of Scholarship to their Executive Board, who will take office in Spring 2010.
Academics
Fraternity men achieved a term GPA of 2.52, while Sorority women achieved a term GPA of 2.78.
The fraternity/sorority community recorded a term GPA of 2.61 for the Fall 2009 semester.
Recruitment/Expansion
60 undergraduate men joined fraternities in the Fall 2009 semester.
38 undergraduate women joined sororities in the Fall 2009 semester.
Michigan Tech will be welcoming Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity to campus as an interest group for the Fall 2011 semester.
Leadership & Involvement
7 undergraduate members representing 7 chapters attended the Undergraduate Interfraternity Institute (UIFI) in
Bloomington, IN.
o 4 of these students served as facilitators for the Greek New Member Orientation in November.
Awards & Recognition
12 undergraduate members representing 5 chapters have been selected to join the Order of Omega Greek Leadership Honorary and will be initiated during the Spring
2010 semester.
Discipline
The following organizations were found to be responsible and were sanctioned for violating university policy during Fall 2009:
o Delta Sigma Phi – Organizational Probation until September 9, 2010
o Sigma Phi Epsilon – Organizational Probation until September 9, 2010
o Sigma Rho – Organizational Suspension until January 1, 2011 (appeal pending)
The following organizations continue their probationary status with the university for previous violations:
o Phi Kappa Theta – Organizational Probation until February 27, 2010
o Theta Tau – Organizational Probation until May 26, 2010
o Tau Kappa Epsilon – Organization Probation until February 15, 2011
The following organization was placed on Academic Warning for Fall 2009 for Spring Cumulative GPA less than 2.50:
o Tau Kappa Epsilon
The following organizations need to talk to the Greek Advisor regarding membership roster issues:
o Alpha Xi Zeta, Sigma Rho and Theta Tau
