INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
NAH 125
OCTOBER 30, 2014
Present: Dr. Alan Burstein, Dr. Doug Davis, Dr. Marc Muneal (faculty senator), Brenda Rutherford,
Autumn Schaffer, and Mary Williams
Absent: Travis McClanahan and Noe Ruiz-Ramos (SGA Rep.)
The meeting was called to order at 2:01 p.m.
1. Minutes from the 09/08/2014 meeting were approved.
2. Discussion of Office 365 available to students vs. MS Office installed on PC desktops.
Autumn Schaffer shared that only currently enrolled students may access Office 365 by
following the links on the Information Technology page. Student access is made
available through an agreement with USG.
Dr. Muneal shared that MS offers a free trial of Office 365 for one month.
Dr. Davis noted that the laptops have MS Office 2013 and asked about available updates
for faculty. He expressed concern that faculty have the same version as students
because faculty are instructing or assisting students with assignments using MS Office.
Autumn suggested that any IT concerns should be submitted using HelpStar.
3.
DegreeWorks training for students and faculty.
Autumn Schaffer reported the following information.
Autumn provides training for students.
Christy Hayes provides training for faculty.
Faculty sessions are better attended than student sessions.
A DegreeWorks resource video will be available by Spring Semester.
Face-to-face training will continue.
Any questions or concerns should be submitted to degreeworks@gordonstate.edu.

Status of ITDC room in Nursing 125.
Autumn Schaffer shared the following information.
The room is used to teach the “Learn to Teach Online” course.
The room may be accessed with ID card swipe. Check online scheduling for availability
The room is equipped with the following equipment.
 a smart screen
 a screen which may access Apple TV
 three desk tops with Camtasia
 laptops

Discussion of faculty vs. staff email naming conventions.
The committee agreed that this was a matter for staff council.

Possible topics of concern for the library are:
Student printer problems have been reported twice per week per printer in the last 3-4
weeks.
Will GALILEO widgets be added to BrightSpace/D2L? Autumn stated that with the
upgrade the widgets will be added.
Per library survey, students requested public copiers be connected to their P-Cut
printing account.
What is the status of technology to be placed in study rooms?
Autumn’s suggestion was to follow up on the HelpStar ticket for these items.

Brenda Rutherford reminded faculty of the second round of Affordable Learning Georgia
Textbook Transformation Grants RFP has been announced. The second round includes
four categories.
 No-Cost-to-Students Learning Materials - Deadline for submission: November
30, 2014
 OpenStax Textbooks - Deadline for submission: November 30, 2014
 Course Pack Pilots -Deadline for submission: November 30, 2014
 Transformations-At-Scale - Deadline for submission: December 8, 2014

A question was asked about the availability of printers for faculty.
Dr. Burstein informed the committee that this topic had been addressed previously with
the response that printers for faculty will be based on need.
Dr. Muneal suggested that advocacy for less paper be placed on the agenda for the next
meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 3:10 p.m.
