The effect of nitrate fertiliser on the growth of maize crops was investigated.
Six similar fields used for growing maize were treated with different quantities of nitrate

A student carried out an investigation on houseflies.
A covered glass dish containing nutrient agar jelly was prepared under sterile conditions.
A housefly was put into the dish and left there for ten minutes with the lid closed. During
this time it walked over the agar jelly and showed feeding behaviour. Afterwards the fly was
removed, the lid replaced and the dish was incubated at 30 °C for several days. The results
are shown in Fig. 5.1.
