The 2013 (9695) syllabus has been broken down into teaching units with suggested teaching activities and learning resources to use in the classroom. Recommended prior knowledge Students will have covered the Cambridge O Level or IGCSE Literature (English) syllabus. Outline The units within this scheme of work are: Unit 1: Moving on from O Level or IGCSE Unit 2: Poetry passage questions Unit 3: Poetry essay questions Unit 4: Prose passage questions Unit 5: Prose essay questions Unit 6: Drama passage questions Unit 7: Drama essay questions Unit 8: Moving from AS to A level Unit 9: Paper 5 – Shakespeare text Unit 10: Paper 5 – novel text Unit 11: Paper 6 – poetry text Paper 7 and Paper 8 – Comment and Appreciation is not specifically referred to in this scheme of work. The skills learned in preparing for the other papers are transferable. Centres wishing to undertake Paper 8 (Coursework) must first write to Cambridge with a detailed plan and rationale for a proposed course. Enquiries should be sent to www.cie.org.uk Teaching order Units 1 to 7 are aimed specifically at AS Level (Papers 3 and 4 on the syllabus) and Units 8 to 11 at the A Level (Papers 5 to 8 on the syllabus). Unit 1 must be covered first. Unit 2 covers a number of core skills of literary appreciation, and material from it can be applied to the Prose and Drama Units. It is therefore recommended that Unit 2 be taught after Unit 1. Thereafter Units 3 to 7 can be taught in any order, though it may be found useful to approach whole texts through examination of particular passages, in which case, each genre pair of units should be taken sequentially. Units 8 to 11 focus on the A Level and it is recommended that Units 1 to 7 are completed first. v1 2Y05 Cambridge International AS and A Level Literature in English (9695) 1 Teacher support The up-to-date resource list for this syllabus can be found on the University of Cambridge International Examinations website www.cie.org.uk.
