Conferring of Degrees Honors and Moving the Tassel The program was printed before the final semester You start the ceremony with the tassel hanging to the right (your right). After the guest speaker finishes his address, the Provost will then recognize honor distinctions (Summa Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Cum Laude) and ask you to rise as a group for the conferring of degrees and moving of tassels. The President will confer your degree by saying, grades were posted, and your honors status may have changed after grades were reported. Honors are noted in the program next to the students’ names. Your name card has your honors designation that will be recognized during the ceremony printed on it. Please take a few minutes to say “Thank You” to a staff and/or faculty member who has been helpful to you during your student days. Once finished, drop the Thank You card and pencil into the box provided. Please refer to the previously mailed “Graduation Information Guide” for more comprehensive information about Graduation Day.
