More than ten thousand people attended a charity concert in London to raise money for war-torn Darfur. The show on Sunday at Wembley Arena was intended to highlight the crisis in the Sudanese region and featured some of the Muslim world's biggest stars. Among them was Sami Yusuf – sometimes called the Islamic Bono – and Texan country and western singer Kareem Salama. Jehangir Malik said the event was the biggest show put on by and for British Muslims, although people of many different faiths attended and enjoyed themselves. “We felt this was an important event for the British Muslim community to be able to raise their voices and say, “Look, we need to do something about Darfur.” It was a challenge for us because people are so busy getting on with their daily lives. We are very lucky to live in comfort and need to do considerably more to help the poor in other countries.” Mr Malik said British Muslims had already raised £2 million for Darfur and he hoped the concert would generate another million pounds. The concert coincided with the end of Ramadan and the celebrations associated with Eid.
