Murali and Uma were looking for a new house that they could afford to buy. They had lived for
three years in a small rented house which had no garden. But now, Uma was pregnant and they
wanted a bigger house with an extra bedroom and a little garden.
One Saturday, Murali and Uma went for a walk in an area of town that they liked, but they couldn’t
find any houses for sale. Tired after their walk, Murali bought ice creams and they sat down on the
front wall of a pretty little house to eat them. Uma said to Murali that the baby would arrive soon
and that perhaps they should forget moving house for now. Murali unwillingly agreed.
Behind them, they did not notice the old lady who had appeared in the garden of the little house.
“I heard you both talking,” she said. “I have been thinking about selling this place.” Murali and Uma
looked at each other. “I am not sure we could afford this,” said Uma sadly.
“Well, come and look around and then we can discuss that later,” the old lady said.
Twenty minutes later, Murali and Uma emerged from the house and thanked the old lady warmly.
