SP (SM) S84227/2 © UCLES 2005 [Turn over 2 1 Planning Session (1 hour and 15 minutes) (a) You are provided with the pattern of a skirt, Simplicity 5351, View F, which has front pleats, a yoke, mock pockets and a zip. (b) Make up the skirt in a fabric of your choice. Using the carbonised sheets to make a duplicate copy, write out a shopping list of the requirements for completing the skirt, giving an alternative for fabric, width and colour. [4] (c) State four reasons for your first choice of fabric. [4] (d) Please state your pattern size on the shopping list. The pattern should be divided for use in the Preparation Session. (e) Hand in the carbon copy of the shopping list, the pattern and the question paper to the Supervisor. [Total: 8] 2 Preparation Session (2 hours) The pattern and requirements for the test will be handed to you by the Supervisor. Carry out the following work: (a) (i) (ii) Adjust the pattern in any way you think necessary to achieve a good fit; If there are no alterations answer the following question: How would you alter the pattern to make the skirt length 5 cm longer / 5 cm shorter? [3] (b) Plan the layout for the skirt and cut out the pieces you require, including the interfacing. [3] (c) Mark the necessary fitting lines and balance points. [1] (d) Assemble the skirt for a fitting. [1] (e) Any remaining time may be used to prepare the pocket flaps with interfacing. Note 3 You are to complete the preparation of the pocket flaps (tacking/basting only) after the Preparation Session in readiness for use in the Examination Session. [Total: 8] Examination Session (3 hours) Make up the skirt to show: (a) the making of the pleats; [9] (b) the completion of the side and back seams; [9] (c) (i) (ii) the making and positioning of the pocket flaps; the application of the yoke; [8] [10] (d) the insertion of the zip; [10] (e) the application of the yoke facing; [12] (f) the application of a hook and bar; [4] (g) the final finish.
