It reads: Hi, I am making a website for my students. We are studying the 9 planets of our solar system. I have information on 3 planets so far. I plan to complete information on all 9 of them. The colours I like on the website are red and blue. I have shown it to another teacher who thinks the design needs changing. They pointed out some problems. • • • • • There is too much information on one page. The colours used make it hard to read lots of information easily. The font style is not very good for all web browsers. The font size of some parts is too small. There are not enough pictures to interest students. I need you to make changes to solve all these problems. The font colour and background need to have ‘high contrast’ (be very different). Apart from a blue background on the homepage, a white background is best. I would still like blue and red to be obvious though. I created a logo that you should use in the right colours. Attached is a copy of the webpage and a logo for ‘The Planets’. Many thanks © UCLES 2012 4294/01/B/J/12 3 On Track – Stage 2 – Website Design for a Purpose You are going to solve the Planets website problems for your Science teacher. Changes will need to be made to the colour scheme, font size and style. Your website will have a homepage and links to individual pages for the planets Venus, Mars and Jupiter. 1 Open PlanetWebpage.htm. (i) Make a homepage for ‘The Planets’ website with navigation links to Venus, Mars and Jupiter. Give the homepage a blue background, as there is not much text. (ii) Make a page each for the three planets: Venus, Mars and Jupiter. Give these pages white backgrounds. Put the correct information into each page. Save these in the same folder. (iii) Make sure the links from the homepage to the three planets work. Save all your work into one folder called by your name. (iv) Make a screenshot (print screen) of the homepage. Save the screenshot as your name 1a. Print. (LO1, LO2) 2 Insert the planet logo onto all pages. Make sure that you Save the logo in the same folder before inserting. Save all your work. The table should be below this information. (a) Re-arrange the information on each page for Venus, Mars and Jupiter. (b) Add an appropriate image on each of these three pages. (c) Add appropriate navigation to every other page on the website including the homepage. Make sure that all the links work. (LO4) 2 View the HTML code for the Mars page. Take a screenshot (print screen). Print and annotate to show the following: • where the logo occurs; • what font colour was used for the title ‘Mars’.
