AWC Mission To increase the use of wood by assuring the broad regulatory acceptance of wood products, developing design tools and guidelines for wood construction, and influencing the development of public policies affecting the use and manufacture of wood products. Why AWC? Design Professionals need to stay abreast of progressive wood industry issues and changing building design standards. The American Wood Council (AWC) Design Professional Membership program provides wood design and construction information to assist engineers and architects, develops structural and fire performance data on a wide range of traditional and engineered wood products, and engages in long-term research. Building Codes AWC protects and expands the recognition of wood products in model, state, and local building codes. AWC develops and advocates code changes, participates in committee activities, provides information to regulatory officials, and advocates the acceptance of industry publications and guidelines. Engineering and Research AWC develops state-of-the-art engineering data, technology, and standards (such as the National Design Specification® (NDS®) for Wood Construction) on structural wood products for use by design professionals and building officials, to assure safe and efficient design and use of wood structural elements. AWC also reviews, coordinates, and conducts research on the structural and fire performance of wood products, systems and assemblies in support of the industry’s code and regulatory programs to facilitate performance-based acceptance of wood products. Technology Transfer AWC provides technical information, educational seminars, technical publications, and distance learning on wood design, for engineered and traditional wood products. AWC has also developed a service to respond to technical inquiries on building codes, standards, and other design information regarding traditional and engineered wood products.
