FOCUS ON: SUPPORT FOR RESEARCHERS
Warwick Women in Science (WIS), aided by Research
Staff Network funding from LDC, have launched a series of
regular network events designed to encourage conversation
around the core WIS themes:
 To encourage LEADERSHIP
 To enable COLLABORATION
 To provide INSPIRATION to everyone at Warwick
The next seasonal WIS event is being held on
8 December 2014 from 11.00am—1.00pm and
addresses Imposter Syndrome, a topic frequently
raised as a challenge in feedback from members of the
network.
Members of the Warwick community are welcome to attend
but places are limited to 15 (allocated on a first come first
served basis) to encourage discussion and strategy
development.

Social Sciences Impact Resource Bank
Digital Tools for Researchers will be
launched on 12 January 2015.
This free, online-only course is aimed primarily at
research students and early career researchers and will
introduce a variety of essential online resources to
enhance how you conduct, manage and communicate
your research.
To complete the course participants are required to take
three core modules (online identity, networking and
web publishing) plus two optional modules on a range
of topics.
The course will use ‘open badges’ as a form of digital
certification to recognise your achievement.

The Faculty of Social Sciences has launched an Impact
Resource Bank as a repository for impact and engagement
activities, such as finding funding, writing a ‘Pathways to
Impact’, engaging with policy makers and political affairs
and press and media relations.
People are encouraged to contribute useful ideas and
content to the bank, plus feedback and suggestions on the
site are welcome. The Impact Resource Bank can be found

Research Data Management
A lunch-time workshop looking at the essentials of
Research Data Management was held on 13 November.

EVENTS AND FUNDING
Development Sessions at IAS
The Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) is running a number of
development sessions for its Early Career Fellows, which are also open to
Warwick PhD and postdoctoral researchers:
 4 December 2014, 2-4pm: Teaching Excellence and Innovation.
Considerations for academic teaching from Jonathan Heron, IATL.
 29 January 2015, 2-4pm: Outreach and Schools Engagement.
Widening participation/engaging with a non-academic audience, from
Nick Barker in Chemistry.
These sessions are held in the IAS Seminar Room, first floor Milburn House.

Research Active Staff Network Funding
As noted last month, funding for Research Active Staff Networks is now
available for this academic year. Five applications have already been
approved, with £7,000 of the total budget of £13,000 still available.

Funding Call: JSPS Summer Programme
The JSPS Summer Programme provides the opportunity for current MPhil
or PhD students to spend time in a Japanese institution during the summer

Post Graduate Award in Teaching & Learning in HE
This PGA is for postgraduate research students who have at least 10 hours
teaching (in an academic year) and would like to receive academic credit for
their teaching and develop teaching practice. As the PGA is accredited by the
Higher Education Academy, successful completion leads to the automatic
awarding of Associate Fellow Status of the Academy.
