EN330: EIGHTEENTH-CENTURY LITERATURE
SECOND ASSESSED ESSAY
Write an essay of 5,000 words on a topic of your own making.
Your essay must:

Refer in detail to least TWO texts you have studied in Term 2.

Include of bibliography of seven to twelve items.

Use MLA style.
You must agree your topic in person with either one of us by the end of Week 10. In these
meetings, we will also offer advice about readings and approaches, so do come prepared to
talk about your area of interest. We plan to offer extended office hours in weeks 9 and 10 to
make it easy for you to schedule a time to meet with us, but you’re also welcome to see us
during our standard offices hours between now and the end of term to discuss your essay.
These hours are:
Tina: Wednesdays 11-12; Thursdays 2-3
David: Tuesdays 11-1
You must upload your essay to Tabula by 12pm (noon) on Tuesday 3rd May 2016. Please
make sure that you are aware of the Department’s guidelines for the presentation of essays
and the regulations on plagiarism. This essay is worth 50% of your final mark for the module.
