•
BRADLEY: Left panel: FUV slope for four different observations. The ratio is obtained by dividing the average I/F from 1750-1900 Å by the average
I/F from 1400-1600 Å. Off- axis light contaminated the signal from the C ring, with observation 2 containing the least amount of contamination, thus
being the only observation shown for the C ring. Right panel: Retrieved value of mean path length (L). L is relatively flat from the mid B ring through
the outer A ring except for a bump at the inner A ring.

Esposito: Among Saturn’s rings, the F ring seemed to be the most exotic one, forming strange shapes and strands in response to
the gravity of nearby moons. But now, a closer look from Cassini’s ultraviolet instrument reveals that particles on the outer edge of
the B ring are equally if not more helter-skelter. These transient B ring structures show that gravitational tugs from Saturn’s moon
Mimas disrupt the smooth nature of the ring, inconsistent with simple models of the rings that behave like a fluid.
