New Liberal Education (LE) Requirement Cheat Sheet Effective fall 2010 The following Groups of Students will be held to the new Liberal Education (LE) requirements: Fall 2010 Freshmen Fall 2010 New Advanced Standing NAS students Fall 2010 Students transferring from U of M coordinate campuses Students not required to follow the new LE requirements: Students transferring from another college at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities ( U of M Twin Cities) to CFANS and were enrolled in that college prior to fall 2010. Therefore, any student enrolled at the U of M Twin Cities prior to fall 2010 will follow the old LE requirements regardless how many times they switch majors and colleges. Challenge: The APAS and/or “What If APAS” for students who fall under the above second category may have the new requirements listed. These students should be referred to the professional advisor in order to simplify the correction process for them. One class no longer counts for two themes. Courses: Although, current students will continue under the old LE requirements, they will need to make their choices based on the new LE courses effective fall 2010. Laurel Carroll from the provost office has been coordinating this entire process and she has stated “Beginning in fall 2010, ALL students need to take the recertified LE courses.” However, if a student states they based their graduation date on a LE that no longer exist send them to the professional advisor.
