Annual FTE Program Distributions for HCPS Division 1996 - 2005 Prepared by the Office of Research Teaming to Serve Research Needs of the College December 8, 2005 This report provides ten-year annual FTE graphs for each prefix or program within the HCPS Division and for the Division overall.1 For prefixes that moved to new divisions, effective the current fiscal year, graphs are provided in the “old” and “new” division. Division totals include FTE from prefixes assigned to the division on a year-by year basis only. Each graph shows both a prefix graph (with scale on the left) and an overall Harper graph (with scale on the right). Following the graphs, a table containing FTE values for each prefix is provided. Data were obtained from the Registrar’s Office. either the FTE changed very little from year to year or no linear trend was present. Each graph has 10-year (1996-2005) and 5-year (20012005) standardized beta coefficients for linear trends reported. Trends significant at the .05 level are followed by *, trends significant at the .01 level are followed by **, and trends not significantly different from 0 (a horizontal line) are followed by ns. The standardized beta coefficients were obtained from linear regression analyses although some of the graphs are clearly not linear. Standardized coefficients were used to allow comparison of coefficients. Standardized beta coefficients range from –1 to +1 with zero indicating enrollment was steady (neither increasing nor decreasing by very much). Negative values indicate downward trends; positive values indicate upward trends. Some general comments related to the graphs are given below: TP PT It should be noted that the left vertical axes on the graphs are set to different scales depending on the course prefix annual FTE. What may appear to be a steeper decline on a graph as compared to another graph may not be steeper due to the vertical scale. For example, on page 2 the 10-year graph for CNA appears to be increasing more rapidly than the 10year graph for BIO, but in BIO is in fact increasing at a faster rate. • The overall 10-year Harper trend and the Harper 5-year trend upward were significant. The HCPS 10-year trend was not significantly different from 0, but the HCPS 5year trend was significant. • BIO, CNA, CRJ, FIS, HRT/PST prefix annual FTE, and the HRT/PST/PKM prefix total had significant 10year upward trends. BIO, CNA, DIT, FIS, HSC, MOA, HRT/PST, the HRT/PST/PKM total, and the HCPS Division had significant 5-year upward trends. • BCE and PHT exhibited significant 10-year downward trends. • DHY and PHT exhibited significant 5-year downward trends. A significant result indicates the presence of a significant linear component. A non-significant result indicates 1 No FTE graphs for DMS, PHB, and RAD prefixes due to data for 2004 and/or 2005 only.
