RALPH J. BUNCHE CENTER FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES SUMMER HUMANITIES INSTITUTE (SHI) at UCLA June 21 through August 15, 2009 PROGRAM PURPOSE: The program will provide two core activities: 1) Instruction in new humanistic scholarship from the perspectives of African American Studies 2) Workshops to enhance preparation for graduate school (topics include conducting independent research, the application process, funding graduate school, and preparing a CV) ELIGIBILITY: * Juniors, seniors, and students who have just completed a BA who have not yet begun their first year of a graduate school program. * Students who may want to pursue an MA or PhD in the Humanities or Social Sciences (e.g., History, English, Art History, Political Science, Afro-American Studies, Women’s Studies, and Sociology). *Areas not eligible: Law, Psychology, Science, Business and other social science fields not listed above. * Students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are strongly encouraged to apply.
