Postgraduate Open Day 2010
Welcome to the
University of Warwick
After deciding to embark on a Master’s degree, I went along
to a graduate recruitment fair in London last year, where
I met a representative of the University of Warwick. As
well as telling me about the course I was interested in, she
recommended that I came to the Postgraduate Open Day. I had been
looking at a number of different MA options in the UK and the USA,
so I am really glad that I went to the Open Day at Warwick. It gave
me the opportunity to meet academics from my course, and to look
around campus, both of which were invaluable. I fell in love with
Warwick when I talked to like-minded people and when I saw the
state-of-the-art facilities, surrounded by a beautiful green campus.
Coming to see the place where I planned on continuing my studies
meant that I was inspired to put every effort into my application to
study here. The competition is high, and hearing the presentations
on Open Day helped me to hone my application and gain a better
chance of entry. The best thing about it, though, was meeting the
current students. Face-to-face interaction was far more inspiring
than staring at the pages of a website. The conversations
I had with people who were already here helped me
make my final decision about where I wanted to do my
postgraduate study. I am now a few months into my course
at Warwick, and absolutely loving it.

Where to find help
Our Warwick Welcome Service Student
Ambassadors are dressed in bright yellow
t-shirts! They are all current students
and as well as conducting tours they
will answer any questions you might
have about what it’s like to study here
at Warwick. University staff are dressed
in navy blue t-shirts and will also be on
hand throughout the day.
Visitors with disabilities
Campus is generally accessible to
individuals with disabilities although
there are a few areas where assistance
may be required, so please ask a member
of staff. If you have indicated that you
have a disability on your booking then
we will be in touch to make any specific
arrangements.
Our Disability Services Team will be
present in our Exhibition so that you
can find out more about support,
services, facilities and disabled students’
allowances.
What to do if you arrive early
Registration starts at 10:00 in the
Rootes Social Building and there will
be refreshments in the networking area
from this time. However, if you arrive
early and have time to spare before your
sessions begin or the Exhibition opens
(11:30 – 14:30) then why not try one of our
eating outlets on campus? Alternatively,
please feel free to explore the campus
(see page 5 for what not to miss).

Guided Campus Tours
Tours will leave from the Registration
Desk in Rootes Social Building at regular
intervals from 10:15 – 14:00. These
will be led by a student ambassador
who will be able to walk you around
campus, highlighting the key features of
postgraduate life at Warwick. Tours last
approximately 45 minutes. Alternatively,
please feel free to explore the campus
independently (see page 5 for what not
to miss).
General Presentations
During the afternoon, we will be offering
general talks on subjects covering careers
and skills, the postgraduate student
experience and accommodation options.
You will notice that the talks are repeated
a number of times throughout the
afternoon, giving you the opportunity
to hear as much about the postgraduate
experience as possible.
Departmental Presentations
Throughout the morning and early
afternoon, many of our departments
will be offering presentations on the
postgraduate study options within their
academic areas. These will take place in
the departments or near the Exhibition
area in the Rootes Social Building. Some
departments are also offering a tour of
their facilities.
Department Drop-Ins
Some of our academic departments will
be open for you to drop in at specified
times throughout the morning to look
around the department and speak to
admissions representatives (see pages

The Exhibition area will be in the
Panorama Suite in the Rootes Social
Building from 11:30 – 14:30, where you
will have the opportunity to meet
representatives and current postgraduate
students from a wide selection of
departments who offer postgraduate
courses. The Exhibition will also
include stands providing information
on Accommodation, Funding, Library
Services, Disability Services and many
more (see page 8 for details).
Postgraduate Research
Networking Event
If you are thinking about doing a PhD,
you will have the opportunity to hear
about funding opportunities and talk to
current PhD students and academic staff
over a light lunch. Booking for this event
is essential as places are limited.
Meet our students
There will be a networking area in Rootes
where you will be able to meet some of
our current postgraduate students in
an informal setting and ask them what
it is really like to study a postgraduate
course at Warwick over complimentary
refreshments.
