The maximum number of players per team is twelve. There must be six players on the court at a time. Each player must sign the attached waiver form. Your team captain, or a representative, must attend the captains meeting on Thursday, August 27th at 7:00pm in the Underground of Bayliss and Henninger. Entry Deadline_________________________________________________________________________________________ • • All Applications must be turned into Bayliss Hall, in a sealed envelope, with the entry fee enclosed BY NO LATER THAN 12:00 P.M. THURSDAY, August 27th. There may be a cutoff point before this time, so teams will be assigned in a first come first serve manner. BRACKETS will be posted at the Captains Meeting. We will accommodate about 170 teams. We will be offering both a competitive and fun bracket. The fun bracket will allow each team to play two games back to back; whereas, the competitive bracket is a single elimination tournament. Please note on your registration form which bracket your team would like to play in. However, please note that this will be done on a first come first serve basis-­‐ you are not guaranteed your first choice, however, we will try to accommodate your first preference. Entry Fee_______________________________________________________________________________________________ There is a $5.00 non-­‐refundable entry fee for each team player to be paid by cash/check only. This fee must be paid in full at the Bayliss information desk when the application is submitted. Please make checks payable to Western Illinois University. Miscellaneous Guidelines_____________________________________________________________________________ • • • • We expect all teams and players to portray good conduct during the events. Unsportsmanlike conduct includes the consumption of alcohol, use of profanity, unnecessary roughhousing or playing in the mud which could possibly interrupt or delay game schedules and any other activities that disrupt the event. Students will be asked to leave the event if they are exhibiting these behaviors. Consumption or possession of alcohol at the event will result in team forfeiture from the tournament, loss of deposit, University Police escort from the grounds, and time suspension from Mud Volleyball. Students need to clean off before returning to their residence halls. Please note that mud in the hall will result in a damage charge to the individual(s). A violation of any of these rules as seen by the organizers of Western Illinois University Mud Volleyball is just cause for dismissal from tournament. Food, Entertainment and Competition Information________________________________________________ • • • • Food will be available for purchase with student ID or cash. There will also be a DJ to provide music and entertainment throughout the day of the event. There will be a giant slip n slide, giant mud twister game and tug of war. Apparel will be available to purchase and order the day of the event. Competitive Play_______________________________________________________________________________________ 1. The competitive bracket is single elimination. 2. Each game will be played for 12 minutes. The team that has the highest score at 12 minutes advances on in the competition. If there is a tie at 12 minutes, then the next point wins. 3. The top four teams will play best 2 of 3 games. Each game will be played until 15 points win by 2. Fun Play ________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1. The fun bracket automatically gets 2 games and then they are done. 2. Each game will be played for 12 minutes. Volleyball Rules________________________________________________________________________________________ 1. Players of the serving team must rotate clockwise prior to serving the ball. 2. The ball must be served from the back right hand corner, behind the out of bounds line, and may be hit in any manner with the hand. Jump serves are not allowed. Prior to the serve, the ball must be cleaned with the designated water cleaning buckets. The ball cannot be loaded with mud. 3. The ball may be played on any part of the body above the waist. 4. Three hits to a side. No player can hit the ball twice in direct succession. A block is not considered a hit. 5. It is a violation to spike with two hands. Only the front line is permitted to spike. Spiking must be done in control at all times. A serve may be blocked, but not spiked. (no downward motion of the hands) 6. It is a foul for players to touch the net during play. 7. If the ball hits the net on a “let” serve it is NOT playable. The server gets to serve again. If the serve does not go over on the second chance then the receiving team gets the point and the serve. 8. If the ball hits the net not on a “let” serve then the receiving team gets the point and the serve. 9. When the ball lands on top of the out of bounds lines it is considered IN. 10. The event is all rally scoring. Example: If the serving team serves the ball out of bounds the receiving team gets a point and then the serve. 11. Only the team captain may approach the referee. Any player arguing, or abusing an official will be asked to leave the game, and the immediate vicinity, and WILL NOT return for any matches. Failure to leave will cause his/her team to forfeit that match. 12. If a team does not show up to play during the time that they are competing, then they are allotted 3 minutes to show up or it is considered a forfeit. Teams should be in the playing area at least 5 minutes before their game is scheduled to play. 13. Please be advised that there are rocks at the bottom of the courts and we highly suggest that you wear some form of footwear. (Swim shoes, sandals, or old tennis shoes.) 14. Additional rules will be discussed at the captains meeting on Thursday, August 27th at 7pm in the Underground of Bayliss and Henninger. Attendance is MANDATORY. THE PURPOSE OF THE GAME IS TO HAVE FUN IN A FAIR AND COMPETTIVE MANNER. RULES HAVE BEEN DETERMINED WITH THE TOP PRIORTY THAT EVERYONE WILL HAVE FUN!!!
