Introduction
Pure Potential works with thousands of students from state schools and colleges across the country and
the Pure Potential team has over ten years’ experience with running large scale events and residentials.
Enlisted by the Sutton Trust, Pure Potential will be managing the 2015 Pathways to Law National
Conference.
Hosted by the University of Warwick, the Pathways to Law National Conference will bring over 250
Pathways to Law students from the twelve participating institutions for a four day residential event
which will include a variety of law-focused activities, including the opportunity to:






Gain a valuable insight into the various routes into law
Develop networking skills and interview techniques, and practise debating and presenting
Spend a day interacting with professionals from some of the UK’s top law firms during case study
challenges and networking sessions
Hear inspiring talks from a number of lawyers
Live and learn at one of the UK’s leading universities
Experience life at a campus university and interact with current undergraduates
In addition to the educational elements of the Conference, students will also spend their evenings taking
part in recreational activities and a gala dinner on the final evening.
The National Conference will take place on Monday, 20th – Thursday, 23st July but you will be
expected to arrive by midday on Sunday, 19th July for pre-Conference orientation.
Staffing
Pure Potential will be assisted by twelve University Coordinators and a team of 40+ student staff during
the Conference: 10 Team Leaders will be from the University of Warwick, 20+ Team Leaders will be from
the respective universities and 12 Night Duty Staff from the University of Warwick.
There will be ten teams of ~25 Pathways students, and each team will be staffed by three Team Leaders
and a University Coordinator during the day. During the evening, Team Leaders and University
Coordinators will supervise students in the social activities and Night Duty Staff will supervise Halls of
Residence in the evenings and overnight.
Duties – Team Leader
1. Take charge of an assigned team of Pathways students for the duration of the National
Conference, except overnight.
2. Encourage the Pathways students to actively participate in the sessions and create a suitable
classroom working environment with your co-Team Leaders and University Coordinator.
3. Engage with the Pathways students and talk through your experiences of applying to university,
student life, your career aspirations and encourage the students to achieve their full potential.
4. Be a positive role model and lead by example.
5. Adhere to the Staff Code of Conduct (accompanying document) at all times, and help to ensure
your fellow Team Leaders do likewise.
6. Ensure the Code of Conduct is adhered to by the Pathways students at all times during the
Conference.
7. Maintain classroom discipline when the students are in a team session, or in the lecture theatre.
8. Monitor behaviour during refreshment breaks including the self-service breakfasts, lunches and
dinners.
9. Supervise students during the gala dinner and ensure all students are back in Halls by the
allocated time.
10. Report any major incidents which occur to a member of the Pure Potential team immediately, and
report all incidents which occur to the Pure Potential team at the appropriate opportunity; this
includes any incidents involving other Team Leaders as well as the Pathways students.
11. Assist the Conference Management team, Warwick Conferences staff and the University
Coordinators with general duties and tasks.
Although Team Leaders will be recruited through their respective universities, Pure Potential will be
managing the Conference and are ultimately responsible for all staff and students.

Pay
You will receive a lump sum payment for this position which will be agreed and paid through your
university payroll office. The payment will be made directly into your bank account and your university
will determine when you will receive payment.
Please note that tax may be deducted at source. Should your earnings for the 2015/2016 tax year not
exceed the personal threshold allowance, you will be able to claim the tax back in May 2016.
Accommodation / Food / Refreshments
Your accommodation will be located in the ‘Tocil’ residences on the Warwick campus and will be
available for you throughout the Conference. You will be able to ‘check in’ to your room from 12.00 on
Sunday, 19th July. All meals will be provided for you, from lunch on Sunday, 19th July, through to lunch on
Thursday 23rd July.
Personal Specification
Ideally you should satisfy most, if not all, of the following:




A current undergraduate student, preferably studying law or a law-related degree
A current Pathways mentor
You are aware of and understand the rationale behind the Pathways to Law programme
Experience of working with young people
