SENATE COMMITTEE ON
PROGRAM MODIFIC AT ION TEMPLATE
UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES
Instructions:
1. Copy the program from the current calendar (www.sfu.ca/students/calendar.html)
 Do not use a past entry or requirements from the program website.
 If there are changes approved for a future term that are not yet published in the
current calendar, these should be added to your submission.
2. Paste as text only to avoid hyperlinks.
3. All deletions should be crossed out as follows: sample.
4. All additions should be marked by a bold.
Reminders:
1. Review the entire calendar entry even if changing only one part.
2. Double check the unit totals. Where possible, state “complete the following courses”
rather than specifying a unit value. Example: “complete 28-35 units from the
following.” Once courses are deleted and thereby disappear from the Calendar, it no
longer adds up to 35 units. Use “complete the following courses” instead.
3. Ensure consistency between unit value and the number of courses required.
4. Where possible, please state a course or a unit value rather than listing them both. For
instance, state “complete 11 courses” rather than “complete 11 courses (minimum 48
units)”.
5. If there is a small change in the program requirements, a copy of all the requirements
is not necessary.
6. If there is a small change across several programs, a copy of each program is not
necessary. But, please review and ensure that the modification is relevant to each
program being changed.
7. Course changes (title, units, description, prerequisites) do not require a program
modification. Deletion of courses in program requirements may often require program
modifications. Review your programs to determine if a program change is needed
when a course is deleted.
