Curriculum and Instruction Intensive Study Area: Ed.D.
The University of Northern Iowa has an institutional policy that guides the assessment of
student outcomes. An overview of the assessment of student learning can be found at
http://www.uni.edu/assessment/assessmentoverview.shtml. Student Learning Outcomes
(SLO) for the Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) Intensive Study Area (ISA) program leading to a
Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) are based on goals established by the ISA Graduate Studies
Committee. These outcomes are designed to relate clearly to the purpose of the UNI Ed.D.
program, which is the following:
To prepare scholar-practitioners to plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise
educational programs for children and adult learners.
The C&I Doctoral Intensive Study Area exists to provide preparation for Education
professionals interested in the design, implementation, and assessment of curriculum for PK-12
settings and in the professional development of teachers in PK-12 settings. As part of their
experience in this program, students will develop and demonstrate the ability to carry out their
professional practice with thoughtful reflection and to conduct rigorous and significant
educational research.
The following table delineates the student products or performances that result from the
students’ attainment of the C&I Intensive Study Area program goals, as well as listing the
related course or activity where that knowledge, skill or disposition is clearly demonstrated.
Please note that outcomes do not apply to the common core across the COE degree. These are
specific to the goals/outcomes for the C&I Intensive Study Area.)
