 to describe the philosophical and aesthetic values in a broad selection of literature from a variety of historical periods, cultures, and genres

 to read texts closely and critically.

 to recognize, apply, and explain the use and effects of literary elements, rhetorical devices, and themes in literary texts

3) Critical approaches

 to demonstrate an ability to use a variety of critical approaches to analyze literary texts.

4) Writing skills

 to use rhetorically appropriate language and organization to write in various modes for different purposes and audiences.

5) Research processes

 to frame research questions

 to plan and conduct inquiry using credible sources

 to integrate and cite researched information and interpretations with textual evidence.
