UCL FACULTY OF MEDICAL SCIENCES DIVISION OF MEDICINE MBPHD PROGRAMME UCL MBPhD Programme Entry September 2016 ELIGIBILITY The UCL MBPHD programme is only available to students who are currently undertaking a Primary Medical Qualification (MBBS, MBChB or equivalent) at a UK Medical School. At the point of entry, successful applicants will have: i. completed the first two years of a full 5 years’ primary medical qualification; ii. achieved an upper second or first class honours degree (or iBSc). Candidate must satisfy the UCL MBBS academic and non-academic entry requirements (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/medicalschool/undergraduate/mbbs-admissions/entry-requirements). Applicants who entered a 5 or 6 year MBBS course as a graduate may request exemption from UCL's iBSc requirement if their degree is in a relevant field. Students who are following an accelerated graduate medical programme are not eligible to transfer to UCL's MBPhD programme. At present, UCL regulations preclude transfers from medical schools outside the United Kingdom. ALL APPLICANTS Must complete Sections 1 – 14 of the application form. Section 15 is optional. Applications must be signed and include a copy of your curriculum vitae and references from your iBSc project supervisor and pre-clinical tutor. Referees may submit references directly to s.beesley@ucl.ac.uk, but they must be submitted by the closing date. If references are being submitted directly, applicants must indicate this on the application form, otherwise it will be deemed that the applicant has failed to include them and the application is incomplete. One additional reference of your choice may be included if this will appropriately support your application. OXBRIDGE APPLICANTS Students who are undertaking Year 1 - Year 3 of their medical course at the Universities of Oxford or Cambridge. Should apply through the normal Oxbridge transfer scheme (MOCAG), stating UCL as first choice and submit a separate application to the MBPhD programme. EXTERNAL APPLICANTS Students who are undertaking their Year 1 + Year 2 + iBSc course at a medical school in the United Kingdom (other than Oxford, Cambridge or UCL). In order to gain exemption from the UCL Year 1-Year 2 course, students must have completed a curriculum that covers the same topics. In this instance, students are asked to provide a full academic transcript and full details of their Year 1-Year 2 programme of study with their application form. The Faculty Tutor will determine eligibility for exemption from the Year 1-Year 2 course and suitability for entry to Year 4 of the UCL course before selection for interview for the MBPhD programme. Cont/d… Page 2 External applicants must have approval from their current Medical School Dean to transfer to UCL to complete their medical degree.
