RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY CONTRIBUTIONS
My research interest mainly focuses on finding novel biomarkers for early detection of
autism and effect of dietary supplementation of natural products on Neurodegenerative
diseases. After joining SQU, I made sincere efforts to conduct quality research and write
research proposals to obtain grants and establish research facilities with a view to transfer
the technology to educate Omani students and capacity building. My research has been
recognized by SQU in 2011 with the Best Young Researcher Award from CAMS, SQU
and the recipient of ‘Professionals from Developing Country’ Award from INSAR, USA
in 2010. I was selected to participate in the Advanced School for Neurochemistry in
Mexico from April 16 to 20, 2013 by International Society for Neurochemistry. I have
won the Science of Art Photo Contest in ISN-ASN Biennial Meeting, Mexico, 2013. One
of my published papers in 2012 got selected as Top 1 out of 20 papers published in the
field of Oxidative stress. As a principal investigator, I have received research grants
amounting to 209,000 OMR from the Research Council Oman (TRC) and IG from SQU.
Besides, I am a co-investigator in four other projects which sums up to 212,500 OMR,
which includes one His Majesty grant, one TRC grant, and two IGs. For the first time in
SQU and the Sultanate, I have set up a core lab for animal behavior related with
neurodegenerative diseases. I am the editor-in-chief of a scientific journal, academic
editor for another international journal and member of editorial / reviewer board for 16
peer-reviewed international journals including PLOS one, eCAM, etc. I have
international collaborations with Universities in Australia, USA, Japan and India. My
publication record increased in steady manner after joining SQU by means of articles,
books and chapters etc. Before joining SQU, I had 29 journal publications with 2 book
chapter and after joining SQU, it has increased to 64 (54 published, 2 accepted and 9
submitted) publications and 32 book chapters.
