With construction well underway, the
reality of a new and improved Davis
Drive is starting to feel a little bit closer.
Road widening this year and the arrival
of the first vivastation platform and
canopy this summer will be an important
moment in seeing the transformation
become a reality.
By the end of the project, there will
be three centre-lane vivastations at
Longford/Parkside, Main and Southlake
Hospital, with each having two platforms
[one eastbound and one westbound].
There will also be two curbside stations
at Alexander/Huron Heights and Leslie.
Traffic lanes will be fully restored with
the added benefit of a dedicated leftturn lane and traffic signal at every
signalized intersection.

transforming it right side up
This investment in modernizing the
corridor, adding a rapid transit service and
revitalizing the infrastructure will go a long
way to making sure Davis is built on a solid
foundation that will serve the growing needs
of the community for many years to come.
It also enables Davis to become an even
greater destination to work, dine, relax,
live and shop.
Bringing this plan to life is not without its
challenges. Construction, in particular,
is messy and disruptive, with its shifting
lanes, signage, road closures and traffic
delays. We truly appreciate your patience
and understanding. We are working hard
throughout the spring and summer to
complete as much as possible. Read on for
more details of how the work on Davis
is unfolding.
we’re on our way
road widening and base-layer paving
making room for the rapidway
Road widening will be a major focus this year. Last year the
south side of Davis, from Yonge Street to east of Parkside
Drive, was widened. This year one of the first areas to be
widened will be from Yonge Street to Longford Drive on the
north side.
Once the road is widened,
base-layer paving will be
done in segments to provide
a smooth travelling surface.
Although the base-layer
pavement may appear
uneven or sloped it ensures
Davis Drive remains
accessible. The pavement
will remain that way until
work in the middle of the
road is completed. Once
it has, the final layer of pavement will be
applied for an overall smooth finish.

boulevards – planting for the future
This year you’ll see finished boulevards in sections
along Davis. Planters with interlocking paving
stones and concrete sidewalks will be installed in
these areas. This will be done in preparation for
planting season and the final touches next year.

road closures and night work
For larger operations, some work is required deep
underground. During these times, it’s necessary to close
roads to keep everyone safe and the project moving along.
This year periodic closures on side streets that intersect
Davis will be required for several different operations
including: sanitary, watermain, storm sewer, paving and
widening. Davis will always remain open during all of the
side street closures. Due to the complexity of this large
infrastructure project, it is also necessary at times to
perform work at night. We will provide as much notice
as possible when night work is required and thank you in
advance for your patience.
