S. A. Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, India P Chandran Curriculum Vitae TEACHING Teaching Experience in SQU (Fall 1988 – To date) • Taught courses at all levels including coordination of multi-section courses. • Involved in instruction and coordination of a large number of courses at SQU. I have supervised projects of students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have also served as member of Theses Committees of MSc students. Starting from the 2006–2007 academic year, some courses under my coordination had student registrations in the range of 600+ to 1000+ (see Appendix I). • Teaching evaluations of students have been very good. Curriculum Development and Teaching Management • I joined SQU in Fall 1988, and by that time the Department of Mathematics & Computing (DOMAC) had started functioning as an academic unit of the College of Science, one of the founding colleges. A major thrust in the initial years was to develop the degree program and establish lecture based courses. As one of the first members in the initial development of the department, I contributed to develop several new courses, which involved writing course objectives, contents, course outlines and methods of assessment. In the initial years, textbooks were not available to the students. This necessitated writing handbooks for students. • Towards curriculum development, I served as Chairman (Sep 2004–Oct 2006, Sep 2012–to date) and member (Sep 2002–Dec 2007) of the Department Curriculum Committee (DCC). During my tenure as the Chairman of DCC, revisions of degree programs were carried out. Besides, in collaboration with the department faculty, a number of courses were revised and new courses were introduced. • In Teaching Management, contributions have been made under four broad roles: – Instructor and Course Coordinator – Foundation Program (FP) (Sep 2009–Jan 2016) and mentor of new Staff in the Foundation Program (Sep 2010–To date) – Chairman/member of the Teaching Committee (Sep 1999–Aug 2002, Sep 2009– Aug 2012) – Timetable officer (Nov 1993–Oct 1998). 2 P Chandran Curriculum Vitae Student Advising Student advising has been an integral part of my academic duties, and I have devoted maximum efforts in justifying the role. The progress of the relatively weak students has been my prime concern, and I feel that my advisees have greatly benefited with my timely advices. Over the years, I have advised the following number of students in Fall and Spring semesters, respectively: 2015–2016: 12/10 2014–2015: 22/20 2013–2014: 20/20 2012–2013: 24/20 2011–2012: 28/27 2010–2011: 23/23 2003–2004: 04/10 2002–2003: 24/15 2001–2002: 53/44 2000–2001: 55/55 1997–1998: 18/18 1996–1997: 18/18 1995–1996: 40/40 Teaching Experience before joining SQU University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria • Contributed to the development of new BSc (Hons) degree program in Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics & Computer Science. The program consisted of general mathematics courses in the first two years and advanced topics in Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science in the later years. • Seminar courses and graduation projects were part of the degree program. • The main courses taught at the University of Port Harcourt were: Calculus I, Calculus II, Analysis I, Analysis II, Linear Algebra, Modern Algebra I, Modern Algebra II, Vector Analysis, Complex Analysis, Differential Equations, Numerical Analysis I, Classical Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics. 3 P Chandran Curriculum Vitae SERVICE University Administration and Committees (a) Sultan Qaboos University Department of Mathematics & Statistics (DOMAS) Chairman, Curriculum Committee (DCC) (Sep 2004 – Oct 2006, Sep 2012 – To date) & Member, Curriculum Committee (Sep 2002 – Dec 2007): The Department Curriculum Committee (DCC) is responsible for the following academic activities of the department: • Approval of new courses for the degree programs of the department. • Periodic revision of courses based on special submissions from the coordinators/instructors of courses. • Approval of text books for DOMAS courses. • Recommend equivalence of courses of the subject areas offered by the department between colleges in SQU and other institutions. • Revision of the existing degree programs, usually every five years. • Preparation and submission of Course Data Collection Forms (CDCF) to the College Curriculum Committee. • Approval of new degree programs depending on the national needs. • Representing the department in the College Curriculum Committee.
