Eureka, CA 95501-0330 Dear Dr. Harris: The purpose of this letter is to provide the details of the Redwoods Community College District’s (District) request and subsequent approval of state funding to replace and relocate the Student Services Administration building and the New Science/Humanities Building. Many hours of meetings and discussions took place between the District, the California Community Colleges System Office (System Office), the Division of the State Architect and the California Geological Survey prior to the submittal of the final project proposals in September 2006. It was determined that the District could not modernize/renovate the existing buildings and stay within the 50% replacement cost as required by law. Consequently, the System Office advised the District to submit final project proposals and third party independent professional reports to substantiate its request. After further review of the proposals and supporting documentation, the System Office approved the proposals and granted a Category A designation, the highest priority out of the six Board of Governors capital outlay project priority criteria. The table below shows funding sequence, phases and funding amounts for the projects: Project Student Services/ Administration Building New Science/ Humanities Building Funding Phases Year 2007-2008 Preliminary Plans/Working Drawings Amount $1,322,000 2008-2009 Construction $14,976,000 2008-2009 Preliminary Plans/Working Drawings $2,258,000 2009-2010 Construction $27,397,000 The System Office is responsible to review and grant priority funding, if justified, to districts that request mitigation of seismically deficient buildings. The District provided ample documentation that allowed us to approve these projects and grant them the highest priority classification.
