Product datasheet Urease Activity Assay Kit (Colorimetric) ab204697 3 Images Overview Product name Urease Activity Assay Kit (Colorimetric) Detection method Colorimetric Sample type Urine, Adherent cells, Suspension cells, Purified protein Assay type Enzyme activity Sensitivity < 0.001 mU/well Product overview Urease Activity Assay Kit (Colorimetric) (ab204697) provides a quick and easy way to determine urease activity. The kit uses a modified Berthelot method to detect ammonia, which can be measured at 670 nm. The kit is suitable for measuring urease activity of biological and soil samples as well as of purified enzyme. The limit of detection is below 0.001 mU. Notes Urease (EC 3.5.1.5) catalyzes the hydrolysis of urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia. Urease is found in certain bacteria, yeast, fungi, and plants. In addition, it is found environmentally in soil samples and fecal matter. Due to ammonia production, urease can play a role in the pathogenesis of certain medical conditions including urinary stones, peptic ulcers, and hepatic encephalopathy. As such, urease can be used as a diagnostic for gastrointestinal and urinary tract pathogens. Tested applications Functional Studies Platform Microplate Properties Storage instructions Store at -20°C. Please refer to protocols. Components Identifier 100 tests Ammonia Reagent 1 Amber 1 x 8ml Ammonia Reagent 2 Clear 1 x 4ml Ammonium Chloride Standard (100 mM) 1 x 100µl Urea (50x) 1 x 1.5ml Urease 1 vial Urease Assay Buffer 1 x 15ml Relevance The enzyme urease catalyzes the hydrolysis of urea to create carbon dioxide and ammonia. The protein consists of a single kind of polypeptide chain containing 840 amino acid residues. The 1 subunit relative molecular mass calculated from the sequence is 90,770, indicating that urease is composed of six subunits.
