Annual Program Review Update
*Be sure to include information from all three campuses.
Program/Discipline: __Real Estate (RE)_________
Date:
__Jan. 31, 2008________
Trends and Relevant Data
1. Has there been any change in the status of your program or area? (Have you
shifted departments? Have new degrees or certificates been created by your
program? Have you added or deleted courses? Have activities in other programs
impacted your area or program? For example, a new nursing program could
cause greater demand for life-science courses.) If not, skip to #2.
Note: curricular changes should be addressed under 12-14.
Certificates previously offered in Real Estate have been eliminated. The purpose/goal of
students taking the Real Estate classes are fulfilling State of California requirements for
taking the Real Estate License examination, continuing education for Real Estate
professionals, and general knowledge for people with Real Estate investments or
interested in Real Estate investing..
2. Have there been any significant changes in enrollment, retention, success rates, or
student demographics that impact your discipline? If so, please include data
sheets (Excel or Word format) showing these changes.
There have been no significant changes. In 2005 - 2006 the average class size for nine
sections offered was 40.7. In 2006 – 2007 the average class size for six sections offered
was 40.7.
3. Occupational programs must review the update of their labor-market data, some
of it provided by Institutional Research, to illustrate that their program:
a. Meets a documented labor market demand,
b. Does not represent duplication of other training programs (in the region), and
c. Is of demonstrated effectiveness as measured by the employment and
completion success of its students.
a. Labor-market demand is solely dependent on the state of the real estate market in
general. When the market is good, demand for sales people and our classes are high,
when sales are slow demand and enrollments are reduced.
b. There are no other training programs either public or private in our region.
c. There is no data available to quantify success of students. Only antidotal information
that indicates students who prepare for the California Real Estate License exam at CR
have a good success rate and those that do receive their license have little problem with
job placement.

Other Resources
4. Do you have needs (professional development, library resources, and so forth) not
previously required by the discipline or not previously addressed in budget or
equipment considerations? Please describe. ( see p. 54)
When the current Real Estate Coordinator retires (Spring 2008) the new Coordinator will
need to engage in professional development not previously required.
5. Does your discipline need additional support from Student Services beyond that
previously provided?
No.

Do you need more full-time faculty? Not a new full-time faculty for teaching - but
a current full-time faculty who would be responsible for program coordination.
Associate faculty? Yes. If yes, explain why and be sure to include data sheets
justifying the need.
Full-time: A full-time faculty is required to coordinate the program. The current
coordinator is retiring Spring 2008. This faculty/coordinator would not teach fulltime in the Real Estate Program, but be full-time with CR, teach in the program,
and be the program coordinator.
Associate faculty: There are currently two classes without designated instructors.
RE 12 Real Estate Legal Aspects and RE 14 Real Estate Appraisal.

Do you need more full-time staff? Part-time staff? If yes, explain why and be sure
to include data sheets justifying the need. (see Appendix B p. 55)
No.
8. If necessary, to clarify your needs, please comment on current available staff and
distribution of FTE's for contract and part-time faculty. Describe strengths and
weaknesses of faculty/staff as appropriate to program's current status or future
development.
The Real Estate Program is currently coordinated by and 100% of the TLU’s are
taught by Part-Time faculty. Mr. Dennis McKenzie who was a Full-Time faculty but
has been Part-Time since 1996, developed the program and continues to coordinate
the program as a Part-Timer. Mr. McKenzie is retiring Spring 2008. Upon Mr.
McKenzie’s retirement, a Full-Time faculty member will be required to coordinate
the program.
Facilities
9. Comment on facilities the program uses, their current adequacy, and any
immediate needs. Have your discipline’s facilities needs changed? If so, how?
Please provide a data-based justification for any request that requires new or
additional facilities construction, renovation, remodeling or repairs. (p. 58)
The classroom utilized by most of the Real Estate classes is FM 100. The overhead
projector in that room is in need of replacement, otherwise the facility adequately
meets the needs of the program.
Equipment
10. Have your discipline’s equipment needs changed? If so, how? Is equipment in
need of repair outside of your current budget? Please provide a data-based
justification for any request that requires a new or additional budget allotment.
There is currently no equipment in need of repair (that I am aware of). There is
currently no budget for repair or replacement of equipment.
Learning Outcomes Assessment Update (Appendix A - p. 48)
11. How has your area or program been engaged in student learning outcomes
assessment?
a.
Summarize your results.
b.
What did your program learn from these results that enabled you to
improve teaching and learning in the discipline?
c.
How have faculty been made aware of the need to assess SLOs?
There is no Degree or Certificate offered for the Real Estate Program. Three of
the classes are required by the State of California to qualify to sit for the Real
Estate Sales License Examination RE 10 Real Estate Principles, RE 11 Real
Estate Practice, and any one of the remaining courses offered @ CR. The SLO for
the Real Estate program is passing the State licensing exam. Other goals of a
student taking the Real Estate classes would be for continuing education for Real
Estate Professionals, for use as a Real Estate investor, or general Real Estate
knowledge. There is no data available to gauge the success of these students.
Curriculum Update
12. Identify curricular revisions, program innovations, and new initiatives undertaken
in the last year.
13. Identify curricular revisions, program innovations, and new initiatives planned for
the next year.

Goals and Plans
15. If you have recently undergone a comprehensive review, attach your Quality
Improvement Plan if applicable.
NA
16. If you do not have a QIP, what goals and plans does your area have for the
coming year?
To have Full-Time faculty appointed as program Coordinator. This coordinator would
be responsible for curriculum, program review, class scheduling, associate faculty
coordination (almost every class offered has a different instructor), monitoring
changes in State law to ensure class content parallels current Real Estate Law. Update
all course outlines for the Real Estate Program.
