FundsusedfromtheBasicSkillsInitiativeshouldincludeoneormoreofthefollowing:
1.Promotetheuseofeffectivepracticesindevelopmentaleducationforadministrative,student
services,andinstructionalprograms.
2.Provideprofessionaldevelopmentregardingeffectivepracticesindevelopmentaleducation.
3.WorkwithInstitutionalResearchintrackingbasicskillsstudentsfromentrytocompletion.
4.Assessandevaluatetheprogramsdesignedtoimprovestudentsuccess.
PreferencewillbegiventorequestsconnectedtotheBasicSkillscurrentyearactionplan
submittedtotheChancellor’sOfficeannually(availableontheBasicSkillswebpages:
http://inside.redwoods.edu/basicskills/other.asp).
Note: Basic Skills funds are not eligible to supplant existing staff or operations funding.
Basic skills funding will not exceed three years and project proposals/planning should include
how future funding will be institutionalized.

2015.Thisyear’sBasicSkillsAnnualPlanlistedcontinuedcontinuedsupportofAccelerationinbasicskills.

toteachENGL‐102.PreliminarydataonENGL‐102,whichhasbeensharedwiththeBasicSkillsCommitteeandpresentedat
the2015StudentSuccessSummit.

willmeasureit):PreliminarysuccessandpersistencedatafromtwosemesterofpilotingENGL‐102hasindicatedthat
studentsareatleastjustassuccessfulinENGL‐102asthoseinENGL‐350.StudentsareprogressingtoENGL‐1A,
transfer‐levelEnglish,fromENGL‐102atahigherratethanthoseisthetraditionalsequence.TheENGL‐102students
alsowerejustassuccessfulastheirpeersinENGL‐1Awhowentthroughthetraditionalsequence.Wewillbereviewing
thisdataagainthissummerandifthedatastayspositiveweintendtoincreasethenumberofENGL‐102sectionswe
offer.ThefacultywhoattendthisCommunityofPracticeinAccelerationwillbepreparedtoteachtheseadditional
sections.Asweaddsectionsweintendtocontinuemonitoringsuccess,retention,andpersistenceratesinENGL‐102
